Early Renders

It all started with the script

Designed to clarify and captivate, the script ensures that complex ideas are both understandable and engaging, paving the way for deeper exploration and appreciation.

Visual Style Exploration

In preparation for the second step of the process (Storyboarding),
we recommend that you take a quick glimpse at the mood board to see if anything catches your eye as a good inspiration for a creative visual representation of the concepts in this work.

Story Board

The first step to animation is planning the sequence.

A creative storyboard is available in the gallery below.

Story structure

Section 1: Emergence in Materials Science (15 seconds)

  • Explain the concept of emergence, emphasizing how complex properties arise from simple interactions at the micro-scale.

  • Use visual aids to illustrate examples of emergent properties, such as the transition from liquid to solid or the strength of alloys.

Section 2: Percolation Theory (15 seconds)

  • Introduce percolation theory, explaining its relevance in understanding material transitions, particularly in disordered systems.

  • Describe the percolation threshold and its importance in predicting material properties, supported by visuals of lattice models.

Section 3: Microstructural Entropy (15 seconds)

  • Define microstructural entropy and its significance in quantifying the disorder within materials.

  • Link entropy to material performance, showcasing how this measure helps predict and enhance properties like strength and thermal stability.

Section 4: Case Example - Beam Design (15 seconds)

  • Present the practical application of these concepts through the beam design example.

  • Highlight how HELMets were optimized for weight and stiffness, demonstrating the beam under various loads, and discuss experimental validations.

These images were generated with A.I to help us get a sense of what the visual direction of the 3D animation could look like. These images are actually very useful to us, as they capture the essence of the desired esthetics:

The gentle balance of lighting and composition that will capture the viewer's imagination, the right amount of detail, with the perfect ratio of negative space.
